While you are watching The Great Gatsby next weekend, fashionistas should keep their eyes peeled for Prada designs during the films two big party scenes. According to WWD, director Baz Luhrmann and costume designer Catherine Martin approached Miuccia Prada personally to collaborate on the fashion in The Great Gatsby.
The pair used Prada in test screenings of the film and loved the looks so well that they approached Prada to create the actual costumes. Prada supplied 40 different looks for the two party scenes.

They said that while they are trying to evoke the spirit of the ‘20s, they were not trying to be strict in the historical accuracy of the outfits designed. They used photos of the era and the wording in which Fitzgerald used in the original story. It doesn’t hurt that Prada’s own spring 2010 collection was filled with ‘20s inspiration. That collection itself is worn by star Carey Mulligan in the film.
If watching these dresses on the big screen isn’t enough, you can see the Prada costumes in an exhibit at the New York Prada flagship store. The exhibit will be in New York until May 12 when it moves to Tokyo.
